double bladed ironwood
A double bladed knife presents a whole new group of challenges. I actually enjoy making them but they are a challenge. This one is a bit more robust than the ones I normally make as the new owner will be using it as a working knife and requested the extra thickness in the blades.
The knife is 4" closed, 7 1/4" open.
The blades and back springs are CPM154 while the centre liner is titanium.
The body with the integral double bolsters is 416 stainless and the covers are desert ironwood.
The nail nicks are on the outside of both blades. (I still like the Dellana Dots better but haven't figured out how to do those with the double blades).
Both blades are centred on closing and flush in all three positions.
Dinosaur bone inlay slip joint
Dinosaur bone inlay slip joint
When you care enough to give a THUNDER LIZARD.
Imagine if you will a dinosaur succumbs after a courageous battle and falls, its bone coming to rest in the exact place that will allow it to become a fossil. Then take those bones and slowly over the eons replace the marrow with crystal but not only crystal but coloured crystal. Then 50 million years later some guy or gal comes along and not only finds the fossilized bone but decides, hey why not slice this open and see what it looks like inside. ......

The knife closed is 3 1/4" long and 5 3/4" open.

Amber Stag Two Blade Trapper
Amber Stag Two Blade Trapper
Sometimes you just have to try something new. This is my first ever multi blade knife. A two bladed trapper. I was pleasantly surprised how thin it ended up being. I had in my head that it would be too thick to be comfortable but with the thin blades and scales it worked.
Knife is 3 1/2" closed, 6 1/4" open.
Blades and back springs are CPM154
The body with its integral double bolsters is 416 stainless. The centre liner is 410 stainless.
The inlays are Culpepper Amber Stag.

Red Lace Agate Clip Point Slip Joint
Red Lace Agate Clip Point Slip Joint
The knife is 4 1/8" long closed and 7 1/4" open.
The blade and back spine are CPM154 and the body with integral double bolsters is 416 stainless steel. The blade uses the Dellana Dot Grip System and sports a nice wicked clip point.
The inlays are Red Lace Agate from Mexico polished to 9000 grit.
The depth and detail to be found within these inlays is amazing.
Whalemouth Slip Joint
This started out as a Nessie pattern but over time I think it has evolved. It now looks more like a Whalemouth. So from this day forward this will be the Whalemouth pattern for me. Does that make sense to you? Can you see it?
I seem to write the same things most of the time:
Blade and back spring are CPM154, the body with the integral front bolster is 416 stainless steel and the covers are Bark Mammoth Ivory. And as usual sport the Dellana Dot grip system.
Closed length is 3 1/2", open is just a hair under 6".
Maroon Micarta Nessie
Here is the latest slip joint from the shop. It is a Nessie pattern, 3 1/2" closed. The scales are Maroon Micarta. It has no liners but the scales have been relieved. The blade and back spring are 154CPM It uses the Dellana Dot grip system which means it is ambidextrous as the raised dots are on both sides.
This is an incredibly light knife , it weighs in at 1.4 oz or 40 grams. In comparison my Autumn Branches weighs almost exactly twice that.
Resin Ivory Classic Slip Joint
Resin Ivory Classic Slip Joint
A Gentleman’s slip joint. This reminds me of an English Gentleman for some reason. Truly a classy knife for everyday or special occasion carry.
The knife is 4 1/4” closed and 7 1/2” open. It weighs in at right on 4 oz. The blade and back spring are 154CPM, the liners are 419 stainless and the covers are resin ivory with canvas micarta bolsters.

Laguna Lace Agate Slip Joint

The body with the double integral bolsters is 416 stainless.
Price is $4500 USD delivered.
Gentlemans Classic
The handle pattern was inspired by a knife from Mr. Meades. The blade is a modified Nessie sort of maybe. The covers are resin ivory and canvas micarta. The blade sports my usual Dellana Dots Grip System.
It is 4 3/8” closed and 7 1/2” open.
Autumn Branches
My latest slip joint knife. I thought the colours and the dark lines reminded me of looking up through the fall branches when the leaves have changed colour but haven't yet fallen.
The knife is 3 1/4" closed and 5 3/4" open. The Blade and back spring are CPM154. The body with the double integral bolsters is 416 with the Dellana Dot grip system.
The insert is Red Lace Agate out of Mexico.

All Jade SLip Joint
Hmmm, I wonder if that would work?
I wonder how many times that has been the beginning of something special?
That is essentially what happened here. I have read that jade is an amazing stone, so tough that it has been used as the head of a golf club. I have no idea if that is true but it got me thinking that, if it is that tough , then I should be able to make a knife with solid jade handles. So I tried it.
This is a Slip Joint knife, also known as your old fashioned jack knife.
It is 3 1/4" closed 5 3/4" open.
The blade and back spring are 154CPM.

Maroon Micarta Slip Joint
Maroon Micarta Slip Joint
This is the first of the isolation knives.
I thought I would try a couple of new things. This is the first knife with a shield inlay-ed into the handle. I had to look up which side to put it in.
This is also the lightest folder I have ever made. It weighs only 1.7 oz. And since I am going to use lighter steel for the next one it should be even lighter.
There are no washers or relief of the liners. The bushing is 2/1000 of an inch thicker than the blade so that should ensure no binding but I can already see minute scratches on the ricasso so I guess I will need to relieve the insides. There are no liners on here either. I figured I would try it without since the micarta is stable enough it shouldn't be a problem.
It is 3 1/4" closed and 5 3/4" open. The blade and back spine are 154CPM and the body is Maroon Canvas Micarta. It has a full half stop and is flush in all three positions.

Mammoth Ivory Puck Slip Joint
Mammoth Ivory Puck Slip Joint
Closed Length 4 1/8", Open Length 7 3/8"
Blade and Backspring are 154CPM, the body with the integral bolsters is 416 Stainless.
The insert is stabilized mammoth tusk cut across the grain.
As usual I use the Dellana Dot grip system so you don't break your nails trying to work that little nail nick and it works from both sides, just squeeze and pull.
Pull on this one is about a 6 to 6 1/2 on a scale of 10.
I am going to try and figure out how to post a video as well.

Storm Clouds on Mars.
On a dusty red planet arcing silently through space, the sun sets through the roiling clouds of an early summer storm. No one sees the majesty of the storm but it is captured in the molten rock on the far away planet called earth.
The tapestry of those clouds now reside in the lace agate inlays of this 4 inch (7 1/4" open) slip joint knife. The CPM154 blade and backspring mesh with the integral bolsters of the 416 body and the Dellana Dot opening system to form this working piece of interstellar art.

4" Mammoth Ivory Slip Joint
4" Mammoth Ivory Slip Joint
Somewhere between 10 and 20,000 years ago a Woolly Mammoth ended his wanderings. His great body left behind his magnificent tusks to sit in the ground and absorb the colours from the land around them. As the ground in the north started to thaw, these magnificent tusks were exposed and found there way into the world market. They traveled further after life than they ever did while they were part of the living being. The journey's end for these small portions now grace this slip joint folder.
The folder is 4 inches long closed and 7 1/4 inches long open. The blade and back spring are 154CPM while the integral bolsters and the body are 416 stainless steel.
The Dellana Dots add a further touch of class to this showpiece.

Leopard Skin Slip Joint
This is number 4 in a set of 6 of my new inlay-ed stone designs. Once all six are complete I will put up a survey to see which ones are the most popular. This is my first foray into lapidary and the choices available are mind boggling.
This specific knife is a Leopard Skin Jasper inlay Slip Joint. The blade and spring are 154CPM and the body is 416 stainless steel. I use Dellana Dots for my grip on the blade. This way the knife can be used by either left or right handed people. The blade is flush in all three positions with what I would call a mid level open. Call it a 6 on my scale.
Once all of the knives are done and the survey is on, the knives will be for sale on my website.
